Images from a Nature's Photos workshop at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust, Beenham, near Reading. The workshop was run by Bob Brind-Surch, of Nature's Photos and the UKWCT staff.
The UK Wolf Conservation Trust is is the only place in the UK where you can see Arctic, European and North American wolves at one location. The workshops are run in the autumn & winter, when the wolves look stunning in their thick winter coats. We were able to photograph the wolves from special prepared locations around their enclosures, through holes cut in the fence or inside the safety barriers, behind only one piece of chain link fencing. We also had access to a raised platform which allowed a clear view of the wolves.
The highlight of the day was a 'walk' with the wolves, where we followed the handlers as they walked 3 North American Wolves (Nuka, Tundra and Tala) over a field and down to a stream and a small pond. The wolves were on leads for obvious safety reasons, but the close access to the wolves presented some great photo opportunities. Being so close to such beautiful animals was quite exhilarating. The 'Wolf Walk' was a very rewarding experience.
Throughout the day we received excellent guidance and supervision from Bob and the highly enthusiastic 'wolf team', who were always delighted to help in any way they could. We all felt very well looked after and had a thoroughly enjoyable day.
I would highly recommend this Nature's Photos workshop and plan to return to the UKWCT on a (hopefully) less-rainy day.
